MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan UniversityÃ‚’s UAW Local 2178 has ratified a new three-year contract. The union, composed of about 170 administrative professional employees, voted 92-22 (1 abstention) Thursday in favor of the proposal.
The contract proposal is retroactive to Oct. 1 and is subject to approval by the NMU Board of Trustees at its December meeting.
Under the terms of the agreement, there will be no wage increase in the current year, but a 1 percent wage increase in the second year and a 3 percent increase in the third year of the contract. The new agreement also includes an increase in both the universityÃ‚’s contribution to health insurance and the employeeÃ‚’s out-of-pocket cap for health care expenses.
