STEELCASE PRESIDENT TO SPEAK AT NMU COMMENCEMENT

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  MARQUETTE – James Hackett, president and CEO of Steelcase Inc., will be the featured speaker at Northern Michigan UniversityÂ’s commencement ceremony. It will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, in the Superior Dome.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Hackett has been president and CEO of Steelcase Inc. since December 1994. He oversees all domestic and international operations. The company is headquartered in Grand Rapids. It designs and manufactures products used to create high-performance work environments, including office furniture, furniture systems, interior architectural products, technology products and related products and services.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  After joining Steelcase in 1981, Hackett held a variety of sales and marketing positions in the company. He progressively served in the following capacities before assuming his current responsibilities: president of Turnstone, a Steelcase company created exclusively to meet the office furnishing needs of small businesses and home offices; executive vice president of Steelcase Ventures; and executive vice president and chief operating officer of Steelcase North America.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Hackett serves on the board of directors for Northwestern Mutual Life in Milwaukee, Wis. He is a member and past president of the Institute of Design Board of Overseers at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He was also the chair of the 1998 Heart of West Michigan United Way Campaign. Hackett earned a bachelorÂ’s degree from the University of Michigan in general studies.
