Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  MARQUETTE – The SteppinÂ’ Out Dance Club and Team at Northern Michigan University will hold its first Spring Fling on Monday, April 21, in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  A highlight of the evening will be a performance by professional dance couple John Abrams and Michelle Officer. They are two-time U.S. ballroom dance champions, silver medalists at the World Show Dance Championships in Germany, and the 2001 world mambo champions.

Four junior champion couples, who are 7 to 17 years of age, will also perform. They are Victor Chostak and Anna Grigoryeva, Michael and Nicole Gerdov, Tirgan Grigoryev and Kristine Dilley, and Shalom Chaimov and Ashley Hanneken.

Spring Fling is scheduled from 7-10 p.m. The first hour will consist of amateur Matchpoint performances, where all of the club members will show off what they have learned. There will be several heats for each dance, with six couples in each heat. The NMU Swing Club has also been invited to participate.

Amateur solo showcases will be featured from 8-8:30 p.m. Dance team members will perform solo routines and formations. Members of the Swing Club will also perform several solo swing dances.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  General dancing, with audience participation encouraged, is scheduled from 8:30-8:45 p.m. The professional and junior couples will perform from 8:45-10 p.m. and then be available to answer questions and meet the audience at a reception to follow. 

Spring Fling is free for NMU students and $5 for non-students. The SteppinÂ’ Out Dance Club is open to all. Membership is free for NMU students and $12 for non-students. For more information, contact Sean Mask at 906-228-2217.
