NMU STUDENT WINS NATIONAL CERAMICS AWARD

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  MARQUETTE – Michael Simi of Newberry, a senior art and design major at Northern Michigan University, is the recipient of a national ceramics award.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Simi won the Undergraduate Student Fellowship from the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA). He was one of three individuals, selected from 50 candidates nationwide, to receive the prestigious award. Judging was conducted by a panel of NCECA board members.

The award allows students to pursue study outside of the university or studio to enhance the development of their work and knowledge of ceramics. Simi was awarded $1,800 and will attend a ceramics workshop this summer in Santa Fe, N.M. SimiÂ’s trip to San Diego was sponsored by the art and design department and the College of Graduate Studies and Research. His ceramics professor at NMU is Sam Chung.
