SINGER/SONGWRITER JOHN GORKA TO PERFORM

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  MARQUETTE – John Gorka, a singer and songwriter, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  GorkaÂ’s musical career began in the 1970s when he was a college student in eastern Pennsylvania. Working at a coffeehouse there, he met folk music performers such as Stan Rogers, Eric Anderson, Tom Paxton and Claudia Schmidt. The performers inspired him, and he was soon performing his own songs as an opener for visiting acts. He won the New Folk Award in 1984 at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Gorka has recorded eight albums, beginning with I Know in 1987. His most recent album is the company you keep, released in 2001.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Tickets are available at the Superior Dome, the University Center Snak Shak, Forest Roberts Theatre, online at www.nmu.edu/tickets and at the door. Advance tickets are $6 for all students, $13 for NMU faculty and staff and $14 for the general public. Tickets at the door are $8 for all students, $15 for NMU faculty and staff and $16 for the general public.
