Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  MARQUETTE – Author Chris Offutt will give a public reading at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at Northern Michigan University. The event will be held in the Erie Room of the University Center.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Offutt grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky and now lives in Iowa. He is the author of two books of short stories, Out of the Woods and Kentucky Straight. He has also published two literary memoirs, The Same River Twice and No Heroes. His novel, The Good Brother, is currently being developed as a feature film.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  OffuttÂ’s short fiction has appeared in Esquire, Glimmer Train and Best American Short Stories. His nonfiction has aired on National Public Radio and has been published in The New York Times. He has won many awards including a Whiting Award, a Guggenheim fellowship and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  There is no admission charge for this event. It is sponsored by NMUÂ’s master of fine arts program in creative writing and by Passages North literary magazine.
