POLICE ACADEMY MOVES TO JACOBETTI

Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University Regional Police Academy recently moved from Sawyer to the Jacobetti Center on Sugarloaf Avenue. The Police Academy had been located at Sawyer since 1995.

Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  According to Mike Bath, there were two reasons for the relocation. One was that some areas at Sawyer were no longer available to the Academy, due to development. The other reason was the availability of space in the Jacobetti Center.

Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Some academy activities, such as driving and shooting practices, are still held at Sawyer. Bath said the driving is done with the Delphi Automotive Testing site for precision driving. The shooting practice occurs at the West Branch SportsmanÂ’s Club.

Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  There will be two informational meetings in the near future to decide when the next academies will be held. The first will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23 at the Jacobetti Center Commons. The second will be held at noon Wednesday, Sept. 25 in the same location.

Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  For more information regarding entry into the NMU Regional Police Academy, call Ken Chant or Mike Bath at (906) 227-1408.
