Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  MARQUETTE – The East Gallery of the Arm Museum of Lee Hall at Northern Michigan University will soon have an exhibit featuring handmade paper.

Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  The Handmade Paper Invitational features eight artists. The artists are: Helmut Becker; Betty Fulmer; Tom Grade; Bill Kohl; Roland Poska; Paul Robbert; Karen Stahlecker; and Lynn Sures. The exhibit runs from Oct. 19 through Nov. 19.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Kohl will give a presentation at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18 in the East Gallery. There will also be an opening reception at 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19.

Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Until about 1800, all paper was made by hand. After the papermaking machine was invented, many hand mills closed. Hand production did not completely die out, and in the mid-1920s, the 1940s and the 1970s, there were increases in interest in the business. There is a growing enthusiasm among artists for papermaking as an art.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  The Galleries is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. The West Gallery is featuring drawings by Dale Leys.
