TWO NMU SENIORS NAMED OUTSTANDING STUDENTS

MARQUETTE - Two Northern Michigan University seniors will receive Outstanding Student Awards from the Michigan Association of Governing Boards.

Holger Wagner, a foreign exchange student from Germany who resides in Marquette, and Jennifer Zanotti of Bay City, Mich., will be recognized at the MAGB Awards Convocation in Lansing on April 8.

Wagner is an international studies/Spanish major. He works on campus in the Office of International Studies. In that capacity, Wagner arranges study abroad semesters for NMU students, works with foreign embassies to arrange business trips for university administrators and coordinates the International Business Seminar at NMU.

Wagner also participates in a number of extra-curricular activities. He serves as coordinator of NMU's International Food Fest, and as a teaching assistant for both a freshman seminar class and an international business course. Wagner is a member of the university ambassador group, First Impressions, and public relations manager for the International Students Club. He also serves as a board member for the Golden Key and Mortar Board National Honor Societies.

Zanotti is a nursing major. She was given an assignment to work with teens with disabilities at Marquette Senior High School as part of her pediatric nursing clinical rotation.

Recognizing the ongoing needs of these teens, she has been a regular volunteer ever since. Zanotti also pioneered - in conjunction with Marquette General Hospital - a new community nursing clinic site. Other noteworthy experiences in her field include: representing NMU at the Student Nurses Association regional conference; representing NMU as an extern on a

telemetry/medical unit at the Bay City Medical Center; and serving as promotional chair for the Student Nurses Association.

Early last year, Zanotti was inducted into both the Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society and Sigma Theta Tau, an international nursing honor society. She also has served as a board member for the university's ambassador group, First Impressions.
