FINNFEST ENDOWMENT FUND ESTABLISHED AT NMU

MARQUETTE--A $20,000 FinnFest USA '96 Endowment Fund has been established at Northern Michigan University with proceeds from last summer's celebration in Marquette.

Its purpose is to provide funds to further Finnish American and Finnish studies at NMU. Projects supported by the fund might include - but are not restricted to - cultural events, exchange programs, travel grants, scholarships, research, artistic projects and instructional resources.

A committee comprised of three NMU faculty members will determine appropriate uses for the available funds. Preferably, these committee members will have a Finnish background or teach/study in fields related to Finnish Americans or Finnish heritage.

On a related note, the NMU Development Fund is no longer charging contributors a fee to process gifts or to manage endowed accounts. The fund's executive committee made the decision to suspend the fees, effective July 1, in an effort to encourage donations to NMU.
