NMU DEVELOPMENT FUND NETS NEARLY $3 MILLION AT MID

MARQUETTE--The NMU Development Fund has raised about $3 million since Jan. 1, according to a mid-year report. The total represents a combination of major gifts of $10,000 or more, and planned giving, which includes deferred gifts or estate settlements.

Of the amount contributed to the fund in the first half of this year, $2.7 million comes from six donors.

"These contributors have helped us raise our sights to a level more in tune with the quality and reach of NMU,' said President William E. Vandament. "As the university approaches its centennial, momentum is building in many areas on campus, including the Development Fund. I am hopeful that it will continue to accelerate as this historic event draws closer."

Northern will begin celebrating its centennial next year. A number of activities are being planned through Sept. 19, 1999, which marks the 100th anniversary of the first day of classes.
