A debate between Democratic gubernatorial candidates James Blanchard, David Bonior and Jennifer Granholm will be taped Thursday morning at Public TV 13 on the Northern Michigan University campus. The event will be televised at 9 p.m. Friday on PBS stations across the state.Tim Skubick, host of the weekly "Off the Record" program, will serve as moderator. He will then sit down with members of the capitol press corps - who will have watched the debate from a distance learning classroom in the same building - to discuss the candidates' performances. This debate edition of "Off the Record" will be broadcast at 5:30 p.m. Friday and at 1 p.m. Sunday on Public TV 13. NOTE TO EDITORS/NEWS DIRIECTORS: The debate is scheduled from 10:30II: 3 0 a.m. Scott Seaman, general manager of Public TV 13, said there will be no media access prior to the debate. The single exception is that newspaper photographers will be allowed in Studio A for five minutes at 10:20 a.m. to shoot photos of the candidates simulating a debate in progress. Media can view the taping in room 165 of the Learning Resource Center - the distance learning classroom. The candidates will be available for interviews in the same room after the debate.
