MARQUETTE - Award-winning author Michael Martone will give a public reading on Thursday, July 18. It will be held at 7 p.m. at the Women's Federated Clubhouse in Marquette. There is no admission charge.His visit is sponsored by the Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing at Northern Michigan University and by Passages North literary magazine. Martone is the author of six books of fiction including Alive and Dead in Indiana, Pensees.- The Thoughts of Dan Quayle, and Fort Wayne is Seventh on Hitler's List. His book The Flatness and Other Landscapes - published last year - won the Associated Writing Programs Award for Nonfiction. His most recent work is entitled The Blue Guide to Indiana. A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., Martone is also the editor of four volumes of prose. He currently teaches at the University of Alabama and previously taught at Syracuse University, Harvard and Iowa State University.
