MARQUETTE - Three $1,000 scholarships have been awarded to Northern Michigan University social work majors who have made a commitment to practice in the Upper Peninsula after graduation.
The recipients are Sonnie Garrow and Hilary Wright of Marquette, along with Sally Ellsworth of Bruce Crossing. Each received a $1,000 award for the current academic year.
NMU professor Billy Blodgett said the students' commitment to practice in the Upper Peninsula and "turn their talents back to the region" was one of the selection criteria. Other factors included senior standing and grade-point average.
All three recipients are scheduled to graduate in May.
