MARQUETTE - The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will host a presentation by Antara Datta entitled, "An Introduction to India: Land of Wonders," at 7 p.m. Monday, April 8 in Room 101 of the Superior Dome.
Datta will introduce her native country using slides and other visual and audio aides. The presentation will include an overview of India as it is today with focus on its art, architecture, religions and history.
"The Land of Wonders" reference in Datta's title comes from American author Mark Twain who wrote in 1896: "So far as I am able to judge, nothing has been left undone, either by man or nature, to make India the most extraordinary country the sun visits on it's round. Nothing seems to have been forgotten, nothing overlooked ... it is the Land of Wonders."
Datta is a graduate student at NMU, studying accounting and computer information services. Her husband, Sujay, is an NMU professor of mathematics. Both are natives of Calcutta.
The public is welcome to attend. The program is free to NCLL members and $3 fee for nonmembers.
