MARQUETTE - Tickets remain available for Northern Michigan University's Jazz Fest concert featuring Jon Faddis, acclaimed trumpeter and director of the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at Kaufman Auditorium.

"Tickets are selling well, but there are still plenty available," said John Cooper, NMU music professor and director of the university jazz band.

Cost of the performance is $1 for NMU students, $5 for all other students and $ 1 0 for adults.  Tickets can be obtained at all NMU outlets and at the door.

Fadden will perform with the NMU Jazz Lab Band.

At 15, Faddis sat in with Dizzy Gillespie.  Three years later, he was a featured soloist with Lionel Hampton' s band, followed by the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Big Band.  He has performed with the Duke Ellington and Count Basie Orchestras, the Gil Evans Big Band and the Mingus Big Band.

The concert will feature the music of Dizzy Gillespie.  The NMU Jazz Lab Band will premier a new composition called "Zieg's Zag" by NMU student and local musician Dave Ziegner of Combo Caliente.  A local high school band will open the program.
