NMU ANNOUNCES STUDENT COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER AND SOL

MARQUETTE - Eric Lundin of Rapid River will be the student speaker at Northern Michigan University's spring commencement May 4. Laura Holderman of Bark River will be the student soloist.

Lundin is a Business-CIS major.  He recently was honored as the Computer Information Systems Scholar by the Walker L. Cisler College of Business at NMU.  He has been active in the NMU chapters of Business Professionals of America and the Association of Information Technology Professionals.

While he was president of AITP, the organization started its practice of refurbishing used computers and donating them to educational and other non-profit institutions, even training staff how to use the equipment effectively.  Lundin was last year's recipient of the Peter White Student Scholarship.  After graduation, he will be director of business development in the Escanaba office of SOFTEK, a business technology firm.  He also plans to pursue an MBA degree.

Holderman is a music education major and was recently recognized as the Outstanding Graduating Senior by the NMU music department.  She completed her degree in four years, despite a daily commute to Marquette from Bark River and her additional responsibilities as a mother of three school-age children.

Throughout her studies, Holderman served as music director at Lakeside Christian Church, where her husband David is the pastor.  She also performed major roles in musicals with the Players de Noc Community Theater.  For her senior recital, Holden-nan chose a chamber-music format in which she performed a piece with every music department faculty member.  It has been called the "most ambitious" senior recital program in recent memory.
