MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University senior Annalisa Kilar of Midland has been awarded a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship by The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
The scholarship will cover the cost for one year of study in Guadalajara, Mexico for up to $25,000. Kilar, who is a double major in history and Spanish at NMU, said right now her plans are to study at the University of Guadalajara.
Kilar was selected for the Ambassadorial Scholarship by the Bay City Rotary Club, District 63 1 0, following an application process that included a series of interviews.
Kilar said she's fascinated with the diverse Mexican culture and plans to take classes that focus on that country's culture and history.
"I'm very excited about this opportunity," said Kilar. "I think Mexico is a country that is just dripping in historical culture."
Following the completion of her study abroad experience and graduation from NMU, Kilar plans to pursue a master's degree in history and would eventually like to teach.
