GERMAN CLASSIC FILM TO BE SHOWN AT NMU

MARQUETTE - The German Classic Film Series at Northern Michigan University continues Thursday (March 21) with Der Hauptmann von Kdpenick or The Captainftom K6penick The 93-minute film, with English subtitles, will be shown at 6 p.m. in room 203 Jamrich Hall. The public is invited to attend and no admission will be charged.

The Captainftom Kdpenick was directed by Helmut Kdutner in 1956. It is based on the comedy of the same title by Carl Zuckmayer.

The film is about a young shoemaker imprisoned for stealing a small amount of money. He is released after 15 years but confronts a Catch-22 situation: one needs a resident's pass to get a job, but without a job one can't obtain a pass. The shoemaker is caught in the net of Prussian bureaucracy until he discovers a costume military uniform that fits him like a second skin.
