MARQUETTE - The German Classic Film Series at Northern Michigan University will end with The Mystery of kaspar Hauser, or Jederfiir sich und Gott gegen alle. It will be shown at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in room 203 Jamrich Hall. The public is invited to attend free of charge. The 1974 film, directed by Wemer Herzog, includes English subtitles. It is based upon a true and mysterious story first recounted as a criminological case study by Anselm Feuerbac'h. In 1828 a young man suddenly appeared on a street in Nuremberg, barely able to speak or walk. He later explains that he had been held captive in a dungeon for as long as he could remember. Herzog's poignant rendering explores Kaspar's alternate vision of the world and the intriguing results of benefactors' efforts to integrate him into society. The film stars Bruno S., who appeared in several of Herzog's films. For more information, contact the NMU department of modem languages and literatures at 227-2940.
