'PURSUIT OF A GENE' IS TOPIC OF NEXT NMU COLLOQUIU

MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University biology professor Frank Verley will present "Pursuit of a Gene" on Friday, March 29. It is scheduled from 3:10-4:15 p.m. in room 167 Gries Hall.

Verley will highlight research projects carried out by students under his direction. The research involves using radiation to induct mutations on the X-chromosome in mice, identifying similar mutations in humans associated with inherited disorders, and cloning the genes.

Verley began this type of research in 1964, when he was doing post-doctorate work at the University of Chicago-Argonne National Laboratory. He has been doing similar projects at NMU since 1967.

The presentation is part of "Discourses from the Academy," a colloquium series sponsored by the department of psychology.
