MINNESOTA POET TO GIVE PUBLIC READING IN MARQUETTE

MARQUETTE - Poet Joyce Sutphen will give a public reading at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the Women's Federated Clubhouse in Marquette. Her visit is sponsored by Northern Michigan University's Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing and by Passages North literary magazine.

Sutphen lives in Chaska, Minn., and teaches at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. Her poems have appeared in Poetry, American Poetry Review, Atlanta Review and other journals. Her first book, Straight Out of View, published by Beacon Press in 1995, won the Barnard New Women Poets Prize. Her second book, Coming Back to the Body, was published by Holy Cow! Press in 2000, and Holy Cow! Press recently reprinted Straight Out of View.

Sutphen has been teaching a poetry workshop at NMU.
