MARQUETTE - Open auditions for the Northern Michigan University opera theater production of The Pirates of Penzance are scheduled at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in room B101 of the Thomas Fine Arts building. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, in the same location.

Three fully-staged and costumed performances of the Gilbert and Sullivan opera are scheduled April 10-12. The role of Major General Stanley has been cast and the chorus will be composed of the NMU university choir.

Those interested in auditioning for the remaining seven roles are asked to prepare only the corresponding selection from Pirates, as indicated below:

The Pirate King, "O Better Far to Live and Die," #3

Samuel: "Pour, O Pour the Pirate Sherry," # 1 3

Auditionees should also be prepared to read dialogue and demonstrate their ability to move well on stage. An accompanist will be provided.
