The Northern Michigan University Office of Institutional Effectiveness maintains a snapshot of alumni employment and educational activities since graduation. This information is gathered in a number of ways, including the Cap and Gown and Post-Graduation Outcomes Surveys.

Results of these surveys are summarized in aggregate and presented in interactive Dashboards to provide current and prospective students information they may need to select academic programs and determine future career plans. Explore the Post-Graduation Outcomes Projects below to learn more about recent NMU alumni.

Cap and Gown Survey

Conducted biannually, the Cap and Gown Survey provides a comprehensive picture of NMU graduates’ initial career and continuing education endeavors immediately after graduation. This survey is administered during Fall and Winter commencement ceremonies and encompasses students who graduated during that academic year. Respondents are asked about their primary role after graduation, the level of support received from NMU in securing a job, where they will be working and/or continuing their education, and other aspects about life after graduation.

Post-Graduation Outcomes Survey

The Post-Graduation Outcomes Survey is conducted in 3-year increments to better understand NMU graduates’ employment and continuing education status and perceived value of their NMU education. Respondents to the survey are between 1 and 3 years out from graduation and are asked to share information about their current employment and continuing education status, income and satisfaction with current employment, relation of current employment to skills and experiences at NMU, and more.
