Ecuador Student Teaching Checklist

Student teaching placements are administered through the University at this local private school. It is a young and energetic faculty; classes are taught in English. NMU student teachers may be required to elect one class for credit at the University – this helps to integrate our students into the local culture and opens up the University’s regular services for international students.

Some familiarity with Spanish (survival level or about 201) is strongly suggested. Student teachers live in host family placement coordinated through the University and will need to navigate big city traffic and culture to get to and from the placement.

·         Once applications are received, USFQ will send acceptance and visa letters together with a copy of an agreement USFQ has with the Ministry of Foreign Relations and an instruction sheet.  Generally, it is sufficient for students to present these letters and copy of the agreement at the Consulate.  However, students should call ahead to the Consulate to ask if there are additional requirements (sometimes an HIV test and police record are required, but this varies from one consulate to another).

·         Certificate of course registration in an educational institution in Ecuador.

·         Certificate of financial solvency (either a bank deposit of a reasonable amount to cover expenses, please inquire at the Consulate of your jurisdiction, with a letter stating the intention of the bank of forwarding to the student 10% of that amount per month OR a document signed by a relative stating that the student is supported by his/her family; OR a legal and duly notarized document indicating the student receives some other type of pension).

·         Valid passport for more than 6 months.

·         Return ticket (for air, land or sea travel).

·         Proof of economic means to support yourself during your stay in Ecuador (may be asked by Immigration authorities)

Temporary lodging can be arranged at a hostal called Hostal Mi Casa, www.lacasasol.com, where a lot of visitors to USFQ stay, or independent arrangements can also be made.
