INITIATED: July 1, 2003

APPROVED: July 1, 2003

This procedure is to explain the telephone services provided, the procedures established to request these services and the processes for charging for these services.

All Faculty and Staff.

The basic telephone service provided by the University’s Telecommunications Office includes the following:

  • Repair and maintenance of all University telephone and peripheral equipment and services.
  • Requests for adds, moves and changes to existing departmental telephone systems.
  • Long distance service.
  • Cabling for voice and data terminals/networks.

Repair and Maintenance

Any University provided telephone service or feature is supported and maintained by Telephone Systems. Service calls are accepted Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. by calling the Telecom Help Desk at extension 1995.

Requests for Adds, Moves and Changes

Departmental telephone changes and additions may be initiated by a call to the Telecom Help Desk at extension 1995. Help Desk hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Long Distance Service

Direct dial long distance calls are automatically recorded and charged to departments generating the calls. Each department will receive call detail of direct dial long distance calling activity for each assigned extension along with the monthly recurring charges for that extension via the Web. An email will be sent to the department head each month when the charge detail is available.

Credit cards are available through Telephone Systems. Credit card charges will be billed to the department to which the card is assigned. Charges will appear along with the direct dial long distance detail.

Cabling for Voice and Data

Telephone Systems is responsible for evaluating all voice and data cabling requests. Where appropriate, the standard of two category 6 wires for data and one category 6 wire for voice will be run to each work station.
