PURPOSE

How to handle a court summons, complaint, or other legal document concerning University activities.

APPLICABILITY

All Faculty and Staff

POLICY

If the document is concerning a criminal matter, the individual serving the papers should be referred to the Department of Public Safety and Police Services and that office will receive the document. If the legal document is concerning anything other than a criminal matter, individuals should be referred to the Vice President for Finance and Administration.  If unsure of whether it is a criminal or civil matter, refer the individual to Public Safety and Police Services.
