Academic Programs

RE 357 studentsNorthern Michigan University's Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department offers programs leading to a bachelor’s degree in either liberal arts or education, with specializations in athletic training, community health education, management of health and fitness, outdoor recreation leadership and management, physical education-coaching, secondary education-physical education or sports science. There are seven majors and 11 minors.

A Master of Science degree is also available for students wishing to pursue advanced study in exercise science.

The department’s programs are designed to build on a student’s liberal studies foundation, give a broad overview of the health and fitness fields and offer a focused preparation in the student’s choice of profession.
