The Vision and Mission of NMU's Housing and Residence Life Office

Alexander Astin, in his book Achieving Educational Excellence, states that "students learn by becoming involved" and discusses the relationship between the amount of energy they devote to their educational experiences and learning.  Students who live on campus are immersed in a unique environment full of opportunities for interpersonal connections and meaningful involvement. The vision and mission for the Housing and Residence Life Office reflects this approach:

Our Vision

Make a difference ... always.

Our Mission

The mission of the Housing and Residence Life Office is to make significant contributions to student learning through excellent service, well-managed facilities, and a residential environment rich with opportunities for personal growth, especially that which grows out of interaction and interpersonal relationships, the creation of unique communities, and involvement in other aspects of campus life.

Students will get to know one another, establish community expectations and goals, and do things together and in doing so will create lasting relationships and become more confident individuals.
