The residence halls, except Spooner Hall, will close at noon on Sunday, December 16. All students must check out of their room by that time.
New Students Participating in Orientation: Students participating in orientation may check in on Tuesday or Wednesday, January 8 or 9.
Returning students may return to their room on Thursday, January 10, 2013.
If you will be moving to another room for the winter semester, you must do so before leaving for the break. All of your belongings must be moved to your new room before you leave for break. This may require that you delay your departure so you can move.
If you have decided not to return to the university next semester, you must schedule a preliminary check-out with your Resident Adviser. You must also schedule a time with your Resident Adviser to formally check-out of your room prior to leaving (see below). See your Resident Adviser for more information.
You must check out of your room with your Resident Adviser before leaving for the holiday break. Your RA will post a Check-out Sign-Up Sheet outside of his or her door showing when he or she will be available. If you miss your scheduled check-out time, your RA will check you out at his or her convenience.
| If you fail to properly check out with your RA, you are subject to a $50 Improper Check-Out fee. |
To prepare for your end-of-the-semester check-out, you must:
There will be a routine maintenance inspection of all residence hall rooms conducted by the residence hall staff at the beginning of the break period. The purpose of this review is to inspect for maintenance problems, hazardous or unsanitary conditions, improper room maintenance and improper room readiness.
Maintenance staff may enter student rooms to make repairs when necessary during the break.
If you are alone in a two-person room and have not made arrangements for a specific roommate for next semester or do not already have a guaranteed single for next semester, a student new to University housing for the winter semester may be assigned to your room. You will need to prepare your room and bathroom for that possibility, making sure that your room and bathroom are clean and half of the space in your room (e.g., bed, closet, drawers, desk, towel bar, etc.) is available before you leave for the break.
| There is a $250 Improper Room Readiness fee for not making sure your room is prepared for a new roommate and because of this, you will also be charged for a single room or a single Spooner Hall apartment. |
