Meet NMU's Professional Residence Hall & Apartment Staff


 

Justine Defever
Resident Director, Gant Hall

"Justine is originally from Alma, Michigan. She is a graduate of Saginaw Valley State University where she was a Professional and Technical Writing major with minors in Communication and Psychology.  While attending Saginaw Valley, Justine was a Resident Assistant, Front Desk Worker, and Orientation Leader. She also used her writing and design education to create technical documents for various departments and promotional materials for local businesses. In her free time, Justine likes to write, draw, bake cupcakes, watch mystery television shows, meet new people, and explore Marquette."

   

Megan Niemi
Resident Director, Halverson Hall

Megan graduated from NMU with an Environmental Science degree.  She is originally from Trenton, MI and loves living in Marquette.  Megan was previously a Resident Adviser in Spalding Hall at NMU.  She enjoys anything related to wildlife, fisheries, and the outdors.

   

Grant Langdon
Resident Director, Spooner Hall

Grant hails from Edgar, Wisconsin and graduated in August, 2010 with a degree in Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Management from NMU.  Prior to being the RD in Hunt Hall, Grant was a Resident Adviser in Van Antwerp Hall for two years.  Grant enjoys playing video games, backpacking, and doing "geeky" things during his spare time.

   


Kyle Lannon

Resident Director, Magers Hall

Kyle is originally from Menomonie, WI.  He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point where he was a Wildlife Ecology - Information and Education major with a Captive Wildlife Minor.  While there, Kyle was a Community Advisor, President of the Residence Hall Association, and a Hall Manager.  Kyle also served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard for five years as a heavy construction equipment operator with the 106th EN Quarry Team.  Whenever Kyle  does find himself with some free time, he enjoys volunteering manual labor, hiking, geocaching, mountain biking, disc golf, exploring Marquette and playing video games.

   


Brent Larsen
Resident Director, Spalding Hall

Brent is from Green Bay, WI and graduated from NMU with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Communication Studies.  Before coming to NMU, he studied at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College where he earned an associates degree in Criminal Justice Law Enforcement with a certificate in Psychology.  While attending NMU, Brent was a resident of Spooner Hall and a resident adviser in Van Antwerp Hall.  In his free time, he enjoys sports, traveling, and spending time outside, utilizing all that Marquette has to offer.  While being the resident director of Spalding Hall, Brent hopes to pursue a Master's degree in Student Affairs.  

   

Elizabeth Sommer
Resident Director, Payne Hall

Liz is the Resident Director of Payne Hall.  Before joining NMU, Liz graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in December, 2012.  While there she majored in History and Broad Field Social Studies Education.  Liz's past experiences include teaching high school social studies, endeavoring as an Assistant Hall Director for two years, and gaining significant conference experience.  Besides her love for the Wildcats, Liz enjoys kayaking, reading, baking, and swing dancing.

 

   

Brittany Porydzy
Resident Director, Van Antwerp Hall

Brittany is originally from Southington, CT.  She is a graduate of the Champlain College located in Burlington, VT where she was a Communication major.  While there, Brittany was an Orientation Leader, Resident Assistant, Student Activities Programmer and an active member of CHAMP, a group similar to NMU’s Prime Time Productions. As an undergrad she also studied abroad in Rome, Italy where she was very lucky to travel parts of Europe. A goal of hers is to be able to do much more traveling throughout her lifetime. When Brittany is not being a Resident Director or traveling the world she enjoys viewing movies with a large popcorn, practicing yoga and spending quality time with close family and friends.

   

Courtney Klauck
Resident Director, Hunt Hall

Courtney is originally from Appleton, WI.  She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she majored in Biology and Communication Arts.  While there, Courtney was a House Fellow, an Undergraduate Research Scholar, and a member of the Student Affairs Mentoring Program.  If she has any free-time, she enjoys reading, anything superhero related, and spending time with family and friends. 

She is happy to be a Resident Director at Northern Michigan University.

   

Alexandra Marshall
Resident Director, Meyland Hall

Alexandra Marshall is originally from Allendale, MI. She graduated from NMU with a Bachelor of Science in English in 2009. As an undergraduate, she spent three years as a Resident Adviser in West Hall. She participated in the Student Leader Fellowship Program and Superior Edge. In May of 2014 she graduated with a Master of Arts in English Literature from NMU. Alexandra is starting another graduate program – this time in Higher Education Student Affairs. In her free time, she enjoys reading and the outdoors. 

   


Christy Miller
Resident Director, West Hall

Christy graduated from NMU with a bachelor of science degree in Electronic Journalism in May, 2012.  Since graduating, Christy has worked for Volkswagen Motors in Auburn Hills, MI in the Chat and Social Media Department.  While at NMU, Christy served as a resident adviser in Spooner Hall for two years and was very involved as an active student leader in Payne Hall.  During her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, kayaking, and hanging with friends.

 

   

Katie Korpi
Coordinator of Apartment Services

 
Katie Korpi is originally from Southeast Michigan.  She came to NMU in 1999 and graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work.  Katie spent two years as a Resident Adviser in Dakota House in Halverson Hall, and transferred to the Community Adviser staff in the 1600 Lincoln Apartments for her last two years at NMU.  After completing her degree, she began working at a non-profit child welfare agency in lower Michigan.  She returned to NMU in the fall of 2008 to become the Resident Director in West Hall.  She then became the Resident Director in Spooner Hall in 2010 and was hired as the Coordinator of Apartment Services in 2012.
