Outstanding graduating senior

Emma Wuepper

Emma graduated in December 2012 with a history major and an anthropology and sociology minor. She was active in the Anthropology Club and the History Club, serving the latter as vice-president. Emma did excavation and archival work for two regional archaeological sites: Beaver Island and Mt. Marquette. She studied permeable ethnic and national boundaries in several places, including doing original research in early-1900’s census records to develop a clearer picture of how American Indian communities interacted with surrounding communities in the upper Great Lakes. Building on both disciplines, Emma did superior work in uncovering what happened in the past and explaining it to people in the present as she studied in both anthropology and history.
