Heavyweight championship boxer Mike Tyson became a strict vegan in 2009 when his wife was trying the diet out. His wife’s goal was weight loss, but Tyson did it to condition himself, mentally and physically.
Vegans avoid all animal products and byproducts, including meat, dairy, eggs and honey.
The tough guy reports that after a few months he became so accustomed to the plant-based diet that he became violently ill when he ate the tiniest piece of meat. Tyson said he that’s when he knew meat had become poison to him.
Luckily, there are more meat substitutes than ever on the market. Seitan, tempeh, texturized vegetable protein (TVP) and extra firm tofu can all take the place of meat in dishes ranging from spaghetti and meatballs to chicken marsala.
