Here’s more motivation to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight: If you’re obese, biologics are less likely to achieve remission of RA and other forms of autoimmune arthritis such as psoriatic arthritis.
In a recent study from Rome’s Catholic University for the Sacred Heart, 32% of non-obese people with RA who took biological response modifiers went into remission; only 15% of those who were obese did. Why does this happen? It seems body fat releases inflammatory proteins, which worsen RA and other autoimmune arthritic conditions.
