10 Ways to Take Charge of Depression
Celebrity Quotes
During some of those darkest days I'd hardly get out of bed and just let the phone ring and ring. Small problems became insurmountable and so I shied away from normal behavior. It seemed easier to duck out of life that way.

8. Start - or Restart -- a Hobby
A hobby is an activity that’s done for the sheer pleasure it gives you –from reading, to throwing pots (not literally, on a potter’s wheel) to bicycling, it can be anything that engages your attention and thoughts. It’s something you do for you, and for you alone. And when you spend time doing it , it’s hard to focus on your negative thoughts.
Hobbies that involve meeting and interacting with other people—such as a knitting circle or book club-- may be particularly effective against depression. And even more helpful when it comes to managing depression, is a hobby that combines physical activity – a known depression fighter-- and interacting with people. Some possibilities are intramural team sports, a running or cycling club, or a regular workout class at the gym.
