Budget Information for Proposal Development

As you work on the budget proposal for your research or scholarly works activities, you may need some of the following information. Other university financial information can be obtained through the NMU Controller’s Office, but please allow ample time for staff there to prepare the information you may need. • NMU’s indirect cost rate is 36%.  You may also need the following information for budget forms:

• 2008-09 Post Doc Salary (est.) $30,260 and fringe at $10,349 (40.4%)

• Guidelines for paying student employees

• 2012-13 Graduate Assistant budget figures: $8,898 stipend for academic year. Tuition at $5,746. Students working in the summer are considered temporary labor, with a fringe rate of 13.7% and hourly wage paid for 8 weeks.

• Adjunct instructor rate: $1,070/credit ($3,568 for 4-credit release).  Fringe is calculated at 17.6% ($623 for 4-credit release).

• NMU Mileage Rate = $0.565/mile (effective 01/01/12)

• NMU Mileage Rate for moving = $0.24/mile
