Assistant Provost's Message

The pursuit of graduate education is an exciting and life changing experience. It provides students with an opportunity to explore areas of interest through research andBrian_Cherry interaction with highly qualified faculty. Graduate education challenges students to think differently and develop both intellectually and professionally.

Northern Michigan University is dedicated to providing graduate students a wide range of experiences; including conducting original research, teaching, and practical internships. The university also provides a number of graduate assistantships through a competitive application process.

In addition to our full-time programs, we offer 12-16 credit graduate certificates that are designed for students who seek to upgrade their skills and talents without pursuing a full degree-program. Some programs offer classes online, through interactive conferencing, and/or hybrid classes that combine the traditional classroom experience and online learning tools to create flexibility for busy professionals.

Our faculty and staff are committed to providing you with a unique education experience that meets your needs of today and challenges of the future.

Brian D. Cherry, MPA, Ph.D.
Assistant Provost of Graduate Education and Research
