Laurel Hill - President

Laurel’s presidency started in January 2014. Her duties include presiding at Executive Committee membership meetings and general membership meetings; appointing special committees with the approval of the general assembly; presenting an annual report; and performing other such duties as may be required by the bylaws or resolutions of the Executive Committee.

Laurel graduated in 2012 from Northern Michigan University with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Chemistry.  Currently, she works as a Teaching Assistant and is pursuing a Master's degree in Biology.  Her research focuses on the effects of large-scale land changes on a local population of spruce grouse (Falcipennis canadensis). José Andrés Miño - Vice President

José Andrés has a Bachelor's Degree from The Ecuadorian Pontifical Catholic University in Clinical Psychology. He moved to Marquette in 2012 to enroll in the Training, Development and Performance Improvement Master's program. He has work related experience in teaching, school counseling, psychotherapy and facilitating change in organizations, mainly in his hometown of Quito, Ecuador. He holds a GA position at the Dean of Students Office. He enjoys playing the guitar and singing to his wife, and walking in nature. If you have questions for José please email him at

Christina Dougherty-Secretary

Originally from Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, Christina graduated from Northern Michigan University in 2011 with a BS in Public Administration and a minor in History.  She currently works at Lowe's, as well as interning with the City of Marquette. She is pursuing a master's degree in Public Administration with a concentration in State and Local Government. Sarah Johnson - Treasurer

Sara Johnson is working towards her MA degree in English with the ultimate goal of teaching composition and technical writing in a university (which means at least one or two more degrees after this one).  She graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2013 with a degree in marketing and writing.  She also worked in GVSU’s writing center as a writing consultant for three years.  She looks forward to seeing what else NMU and Marquette have to offer.  If you have any questions for Sara, want to chat, or geek out about anything related to linguistics, writing, reading, or The Walking Dead, feel free to email her at
