Department seeking assistant professor of climatology
The Department of Earth, Environmental, and Geographical Sciences at Northern Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Climatology / Atmospheric Science to begin in August, 2013.
The successful candidate will teach Weather and Climate and be able to teach introductory courses such as Physical Geography, Introduction to Environmental Science, and Introduction to Geographic Research, and upper level courses that may include Environmental Policy and Regulation, Environmental Impact Assessment, and a new course to complement the Department's majors and areas of emphasis. The Department seeks candidates who have demonstrated a strong commitment and ability to provide excellent undergraduate instruction and advising. This position will also include research and service responsibilities appropriate for the rank of Assistant Professor.
Required minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Geography, Environmental Science, or a closely related field. The successful candidate will have an active research agenda that is connected to environmental concerns in the Great Lakes region such as forecasting weather events, monitoring air quality, addressing concerns related to the ecosystems of large lakes, and linking local and regional patterns of weather and climate to global climate change.
