NMU’s GIS Programs Equipped Well

GIS LabNorthern Michigan University’s Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences Department offers a major, minor and certification program in Geomatics, Geographic Information Sciences and/or GIS.  The program integrates the geomatics courses with computer science, statistics and other courses offered at NMU. The NMU Geomatics program is linked closely with the university laptop computer initiative.

NMU EEGS students are equipped with a portable GIS lab. Students receive the latest ESRI and ERDAS (links in the ESRI and ERDAS websites) software installed on their laptops and they work towards completing exercises independently, on or off campus.

The program also has a fully equipped GIS and spatial analysis lab. The lab is equipped with survey grade GPS equipment, laptop docking stations, wide screen flat panel monitors, printers, a 44” poster plotter, 44” wide format scanner and an enterprise file server.
