James L. Rapport Scholarship

This award was established in 1998 by donations in honor of Dr. James L. Rapport.  It was Dr. Rapport’s desire to recognize students who have contributed to the theatre program at Northern Michigan University. 

Preference will be given to students with a declared theatre major, followed by students who have performed on the Forest Roberts Theatre stage or worked in a backstage capacity.

Theatre Department faculty will recommend qualified students for awards in one or both of the following categories, listed in order of preference:

  1. Scholarship:  Students who have demonstrated talent, dedication, innovation or excellence in performance whether on stage or backstage in their cumulative body of work as a theatre undergraduate or graduate assistant.
  2. Grant:  A grant will be awarded to offset expenses for students participating in the annual McMaster’s Seminar at the Stratford Theatre Festival in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, the New York Theatre trip, or audition preparation.

Selection Process
Qualified applications will be reviewed by the appropriate selection committee. Recipients will be notified by the Financial Aid Office.

Note: If you wish to be considered for need-based awards, you will need to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the Financial Aid Office.
