Louise M. Bourgault Memorial International Scholarship

 

This award was established in 2010 in memory of Louise M. Bourgault, Ph.D, with donations from her family and friends.  Dr. Bourgault was a Professor of Mass Communication in the Department of Communication and Performance Studies for over 20 years and an internationally recognized authority on African media and popular culture. Throughout her career, Dr. Bourgault was a tireless champion of internationalization at Northern Michigan University

Must demonstrate financial need: Yes

Full-time Status:  Applicants must be enrolled full-time for two consecutive semesters preceding their study abroad program.  The study abroad experience may be full- or part-time but must qualify for academic credit.

Major:  Preference given to students majoring in Communication and Performance Studies, Biology or International Studies.

Other:  Students must be enrolled in a NMU study abroad program, with preference to students studying in Africa or other parts of the developing world.

Application Process:  Students must submit an application and the names of 2 references to the International Programs Scholarship Selection Committee. Applications should be submitted at least one semester in advance of the travel date.

Note: If you wish to be considered for need-based awards, you will need to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the Financial Aid Office.
