At the recent "A Blueprint for Success" annual giving recognition event hosted by President Les and Phyllis Wong and the NMU Foundation Board of Trustees, annual givers had an opportunity to meet with members of the Northern Michigan Constructors student organization. NMC members displayed presentations that featured the career-enhancing benefits of their organization and their community service work.
In addition, the Constructors, Foundation staff, Foundation Trustees and others had an opportunity to thank our annual giving donors for their important, ongoing support of student enrichment an NMU.
Jim Conlin, Constructors vice president and construction management senior, reflected on the evening. "Having the opportunity to share my experiences with donors at this event is by far one of my most memorable moments here at NMU. Through this event, I think donors know more about the work we do in the community and will hopefully walk away knowing their support is being put to good use."
Northern Michigan Constructors is one of the many student organizations that receive support from the Northern Fund.
Annual gifts provide crucial funds for student programs and extracurricular activities that enhance the academic and campus experience and help prepare graduates to take leadership roles at work and in the community.
About Northern Michigan Constructors:
The Northern Michigan Constructors (NMC) is an organization composed of mostly Construction Management and Building Technology majors, but is open to all NMU students. The NMC maintains student chapters of both the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) as well as the local Upper Peninsula Builders Association (UPBA). These affiliations provide several professional development opportunities for members.
The Constructors focus the majority of their efforts on construction related community service projects throughout Marquette and surrounding communities. The club has established relationships with the USOEC, City of Marquette, Habitat for Humanity, Kiwanis Club, and the Ishpeming Ski Club as well as many other organizations. The Constructors also conduct several social events throughout the year including barbecues, educational classes, ice fishing tournaments, and various trips.
At this year's 21st Annual Leadership Banquet, the Constructors were named Organization of the Year.
