The Forest Roberts Theatre & The First Nighters Club present: Haunted Theatre
The Forest Roberts Theatre stage is transformed into a fun and spooky haunted house! Haunted Theatre is a project sponsored by the First Nighters Club to benefit the FRT. Designed for all ages with child-friendly and PG-13 versions.
The First Nighters Club and Forest Roberts Theatre are presenting the ninth annual Haunted Theatre at the Forest Roberts Theatre with four October performances. The cast of approximately 40 individuals is a mix of NMU students, Marquette community members, and area youth. All performers learn about theatre from a non-traditional, unique perspective as they perform in close proximity to the audience and engage in improvisational performance. "Haunted Theatre is a bonding experience," said director Martyn Martello. "I personally have made some close friends who I might never have met had I not been doing the show. In addition, it exposes people to the theatre who might not have even considered doing theatre before." Haunted Theatre supports the First Nighter's Club's mission of providing theatrical opportunities for NMU students to grow from, as it allows for a large cast and many unique learning opportunities. Additionally, all of the proceeds from the performances go to the First Nighters Club, which directly benefits NMU theatre students through scholarship distributions.
An excerpt from The Mining Journal's review of Haunted Theatre:
"As audience members travel from room to room, they will be drawn in by more than the performers, costumes, and makeup. Anyone who has ever seen a good horror movie knows that the environment and sound effects can really catapult a scene into the realm of the terrifying. The Haunted Theatre technical design team has created an eerie, immersive environment that will get your pulse racing through the masterful combination of physical surroundings, lighting, music, and sound effects. They have crafted a distinct world and feeling for each of the different rooms, as well as the mazes, spaces, and hallways that connect those rooms. The immeasurable talents of Technical Director David Pierce and Light/Sound Designer Dan Zini are evident every step along the way, from the theatre lobby to the final exit."
