International Student Awards

NMU'S AWARD FOR GLOBAL AMBASSADORS - FRESHMEN
(Effective Fall 2013 this award replaces the International Academic Award)

Eligibility:

Must hold a valid U.S. student visa and be in status.  Given to new NMU international students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher (U.S. equivalent).  For incoming freshmen, a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.

International students who matriculate to NMU in Fall 2013 or later, who did not initially qualify for the NMU's Award for Global Ambassadors, are eligible for the award if their NMU cumulative GPA reaches 3.0 or higher.

Amount: Fall and winter semester awards will be $2,200 each.  Summer semester will be $1,000 each.
Number Awarded: Unlimited.  Awarded to all who meet criteria.
How to Apply: No Scholarship Application is required.
Enrollment Requirements: Must be enrolled full-time (12.0 credits or more) and in a baccalaureate program.  Award winners are expected to participate in intercultural sharing and/or service activities.
Renewal: Yes, must maintain a cumulative NMU GPA of 3.0 or higher; full-time status, lawful immigration status according to the guidelines set by the Department of Homeland Security and NMU; and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress policy requirements (http://www.nmu.edu/financialaid/progresspolicy).  NMU's International Programs Office is responsible for verifying all renewal criteria.

 

INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC AWARD
(Prior to Fall 2013)

Eligibility:

International students who achieve cumulative GPA of 3.00+ after 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th semester at NMU.

Amount: $2,220 per academic year; additional $1,000 summer semester.
Number Awarded: Unlimited.  Awarded to all who meet criteria.
How to Apply: No Scholarship Application is required.  No deadline.
Enrollment Requirements: Must be enrolled full-time (12.0 credit hours or more) and in a baccalaureate program.
Renewal: Yes, with a minimum cumulative NMU GPA of 3.00.  Renewable for up to 7 semesters, depending on when first earned.

 

NMU'S AWARD FOR GLOBAL AMBASSADORS - TRANSFER STUDENTS
Effective Fall 2013 this award replaces the Transfer International Academic Award)

Eligibility:

Must hold a valid U.S. student visa and be in status.  Given to new NMU international students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher (U.S. equivalent).  For incoming transfer students with fewer than 12 credit hours, a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher is required; for incoming transfer students with 12.0 or more credit hours, a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher from the previous institution of higher education is required, AND a cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
