2008-2009 ESTIMATED Cost of Attendance   

The estimated cost of attendance [COA] is an estimate of the costs a typical full-time student may incur over the fall and winter semesters combined. This figure is used in determining your financial aid eligibility and includes both direct and indirect costs. Direct costs include tuition, mandatory fees, books, room and board. Indirect costs include transportation and personal expenses.

If you have additional educational related cost that you would like the Financial Aid Office to review, you can submit in writing your request along with related documentation. Not all adjustments result in an increase in financial aid eligibility.

Some examples of adjustments and supporting documentation requirements to justify increases:

Study Abroad – Student will work with the International Studies Office to develop a budget that will then be submitted to the Financial Aid Office.

• Book Costs in Excess of Budget – Student needs to provide book purchase receipts and syllabus to match up.
• Daycare Expenses – Submit a letter from licensed daycare provider reflecting the costs for the semester (dollar amount per hour multiplied by number of hours per week multiplied by number of weeks per semester), signed and dated by the provider along with license number. The provider needs to submit a copy of the license.
• Camcorder or Tools – Submit a letter/memo from the department indicating that the student in question is required to purchase the items as part of class requirements. Letter needs to indicate standard cost of items.
• Commuter Living on Campus – Will originally be awarded as a commuter, but upon request will be recalculated as if living in campus housing.
• 19 Credits or More – Upon request we will recalculate based on cost of tuition.
• I-Book Expenses – Art and Design majors who will have the extra expense of an I-Book added to their cost of attendance may request, in writing, to increase their cost of attendance to cover the additional cost.
• Other increases – On a case-by-case situation, unique situations may be approved with a written request from the student outlining the reasons and supporting documentation.
