All incoming students will be “evaluated” for English placement for the following:
EN 111 College Composition
Students who have a 2.0 recalculated HS GPA or higher OR are transfer students may enroll in EN 111.
These students will be able to sign up for EN 111 on their own when they register.
EN 090 Basic Composition
Students who have less than a 2.0 OR are missing HS GPA data will not be able to enroll in EN 111 and will be REQUIRED to take EN 090.
Students will be allowed to appeal this decision.
EN 101 Learning Skills Development and EN 102 Personal Reading Improvement
If students have an ACT English score < 18, EN 101 Learning Skills Development is recommended.
If students have an ACT Reading score of < 18, EN 102 Personal Reading Improvement is recommended.
If students are missing an ACT English or ACT Reading score, the equation
would take ACT composite.
If the ACT composite score is < 19, EN 101 and EN 102 are recommended.
If the ACT composite score is missing, EN 101 and EN 102 are recommended.
Students wishing to appeal their placement can go to the following link and take an online writing test.
