Biography
Professor Farkas earned her Ph.D. in Reading from Oakland University in 2015, after a sixteen-year career teaching at the middle and secondary levels. During her last three years in public education she worked as a literacy specialist.   Her research interests include program evaluation, disciplinary literacy, and digital literacy. Recently submitted manuscripts include "Evaluating a College Reading Program Designed to Close the Reading Comprehension Gap of First-Year Students" and "Evaluating a Middle School English Language Arts Program: A Mixed-Methods Approach." Professor Farkas has presented numerous papers at national and international conferences; most recently, her work was accepted for presentation at the College Reading and Learning Association conference and the National Association for Developmental Education conference.  She and her husband, Dave, enjoy spending time with their children: Casey, David, and Sabrina.  
As a family, they particularly enjoy camping, kayaking, biking, hiking, boating, and fishing in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
