Matt Bell is the author of several books, including How They Were Found (a collection of stories), Cataclysm Baby (a novella), and In the House upon the Dirt between the Lake and the Woods (a novel forthcoming from Soho Press in 2013). His stories have appeared in Conjunctions, Hayden's Ferry Review, Unsaid, Gulf Coast, Willow Springs, and many other magazines, and have been reprinted in anthologies such as Best American Mystery Stories and Best American Fantasy.

He received his B.A. in English from Oakland University, and completed his M.F.A. in Fiction at Bowling Green State University. Before coming to NMU, he taught writing at the University of Michigan. He is the senior editor at Dzanc Books, a non-profit literary press, where he also edits the literary journal The Collagist.
