Construction Update on New CHP Plant

As part of a campus energy optimization project, a new biomass fueled cogeneration combined heating and power (CHP) plant is under construction as an addition to the existing plant. The new unit will burn wood chips and wood by-products of the Upper Peninsula.       Project Details.

 

New Jamrich Building Design Near Completion

New Jamrich Building Coming Fall 2014

The first architectural renderings of the new academic building (an artist's rendition shown above from the front) were shown to the finance committee of the NMU Board of Trustees in September as part of an update on facilities projects. The full board later approved a recommendation that the new building retain the name John X. Jamrich Hall. In June, NMU received state capital outlay funding for the facility, which will replace the existing Jamrich Hall, where more than 40 percent of university classes are held. Project Details.

Door Access Security Project

 

  • This project consists of the replacement of the existing Door Access Security system.  There are 19 buildings included in the project which includes hard-wired and wireless card readers.  The features in the new system will enable remote locking and unlocking of buildings as well as improving campus security during an emergency.  The new system being installed will be provided by CBORD.

Fire Alarm Replacement Project

The project will include the full replacement of the existing fire alarm and detection systems in the following buildings: PEIF, Superior Dome, Berry Event Center, Cohodas Hall, Art & Design, Thomas Fine Arts, McClintock Building, Forest Roberts Theater, Learning Resource Center, Services Building, Jacobetti, and University Center. All individual building systems shall communicate to a new central station located in the dispatch area of the Public Safety Department within the Services Building.

 

PEIF Roof Replacement Project

The PEIF built-up roof, originally installed in 1974 and re-roofed in 1990, is scheduled to be completely replaced.  Project Details.

 

Cohodas Hall Lobby Renovation

The Cohodas Lobby will be receiving new finishes. Construction is expected to take place during the summer of 2013. Project Details.
